My weekend pampering routine — Winter Edition

Hello Guys!!

Its been a long time i pampered my skin since I have been busy with moving, work and other stuff. On top of it, the sweater weather has made my skin dry and dull. Its high time i give my skin some love and this weekend, i finally did it. I was cleaning out my fridge and found the milk was going to expire. Instead of letting it go waste, I thought — why not make use of it to treat my moisture craving skin? Taking Queen Cleopatra as inspiration, I stepped into my bathroom. Its such an incredible feeling to “be back”!

I start with putting some raw honey on my face and hair. Honey is rich in anti-bacterial, anti fungal  properties and nourishes your skin and hair. It is a natural humectant, meaning it attracts moisture and holds the moisture in your hair and skin. Wrapping my hair into a bun, I am all ready for a nice bath soak.

To make this DIY bath soak, you just need milk and honey, which probably most of you already have in your kitchen. Under the running water, add milk (I used about half gallon, but its your choice. No exact measurement to it), 4 tablespoons honey and 2 tablespoons of mineral bath soak (optional, but highly relaxing to your stressed out muscles). And, girls!! Don’t forget to light up some candlesss! They give you such a spa-like and relaxed feeling, that though they are technically not a part of this recipe, they actually are!! To give an aromatherapy touch, I added some dried flower petals and 5 drops of lavender essential oil. Lavender oil is very calming and relaxing for the body. Play your favorite music and step inside the heaven (ahem, Bath tub, I mean!). Usually, store bought bath soaks may give you irritation if used for an extended period of time. But this one has no side effects. After-all, its milk and honey you guys!!

While I am still in the bath tub and fully soaked, I do some prep work for my mani and pedi  (#busylife ). I take a pumice stone and scrub the callus  under my feet and gently push back my cuticles using a cuticle pusher. Next, I wash off my honey dipped hair with lukewarm water and finish off with a gentle shampoo .

Once I am out of the tub, I remove the petals with a strainer, drain the water, spray the tub with my Green Works Multi-Surface Cleaner Spray and wipe off. Then, I carry on with my usual skin care routine and then with mani and pedi.

I am currently using this non-toxic, hydrating  nail polish remover from Pure Body naturals and I should say it is amazing. It does a dual job of nail polish remover and nail treatment. This acetone free remover strengthens the nails and softens the cuticle while effectively removing the nail polish. I usually put this on my fingers for 3-4 minutes and then using a cotton pad, remove my old polish.  I don’t always apply nail polish, but on days I do, I love to use Five free nail polishes from Julep. These nail polishes are free of sulphates, parabens, formaldehyde, toluene, dibutyl phthalate, formaldehyde resin, and camphor. Don’t we all love when we find  natural products that are  effective and fit the bill at the same time?

Finishing off, I apply the Glycolic Face mask from Derma Nu. Packed with anti-oxidants, vitamin C and acne curing benefits, this mask is perfect for winters because it is very softening and gentle on the skin unlike many other clay masks.

Hmmmm, I think I will try the milk and honey bath this weekend! I have heard about honey being great for the skin but have not used it to bathe. Like the idea of not always having to buy beauty products and using things already in the house.

I don’t have a weekend pampering routine but gees now that I see it. A bath is always a nice thing. Usually it’s just some hot water, good bubbles and a good book. Its not every weekend that’s for sure and as I write this I don’t even know the last time I had a bath!!! I guess it’s long over due.

No it doesn’t if you mix a drop or two of water. It glides on smoothly and is easy to wash off. After washing off, it leaves a thin hydrating layer but never a sticky one. Hope you” love it 🙂
